Panthers Show Fight Early, Look to Build Moving Forward

PANTHERS SHOW FIGHT EARLY, LOOK TO BUILD MOVING FORWARD

The St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers jumped out to a strong start at home on Monday, but a big fifth inning from Port Clinton proved to be the difference in an 8-4 contest. SMCC wasted no time getting on the board, plating runs in the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead. C Wikel, C Dillard, G Swain, and S Lawrence all helped spark the early momentum, while L Will delivered at the plate with 2 RBIs to pace the offense. S Lawrence led the Panthers with a pair of hits, while contributions also came from C Dillard, G Swain, B Byington, and L Will as SMCC totaled six hits on the day. The team stayed aggressive on the bases as well, with multiple stolen bases from G Swain, B Byington, B Finneran, C Dillard, S Lawrence, and C Wikel. On the mound, L Will kept things in control through the first four innings before Port Clinton rallied in the fifth. G Swain came on in relief and recorded five strikeouts over two innings of work. Despite the mid-game swing, the Panthers showed strong energy early and continued to compete throughout. SMCC will look to carry that early-game momentum into their next matchup.
