PANTHERS SWEEP SJCC, IMPROVE TO 2-0 DESPITE WEATHER-SHORTENED MATCH
The St. Mary Central Catholic boys tennis team continued its strong start to the season Tuesday evening, defeating Sandusky St. Joseph Central Catholic 3-0 before the match was suspended due to inclement weather. With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in SBC Bay Division play.
SMCC wasted no time asserting control, delivering dominant performances across the singles and doubles courts.
At 1st Singles, Pravir Gorty set the tone with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory. Eian Etchill followed suit at 2nd Singles, matching that scoreline with a commanding straight-sets win of his own. In 3rd Singles, Jack Davis was on the verge of closing out another sweep, leading 6-0, 5-0 when play was halted.
The Panthers were equally impressive in doubles action. The 1st Doubles team of Luke Spicer and Pavan Gorty cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Carter Snyder and Michael Likenbach dominated early at 2nd Doubles, holding a 6-0, 5-0 advantage before the suspension.
The JV squad also found success, earning a 1-0 victory on the night. Mason Russell and Luke Evans secured a decisive 6-0 win at 1st Doubles, while Matt Gebard and Mason McCune were leading their match 6-0 when play was stopped.
Despite the weather cutting the match short, the Panthers made a clear statement in their conference opener with a clean and commanding performance.
SMCC will look to keep the momentum rolling as they are scheduled to host Ottawa Hills on Wednesday, April 1 at 4:15 p.m. at the City of Sandusky Tennis Complex, weather permitting.
Go Panthers!
